IM-93 is a dual inhibitor of ferroptosis and NETosis

**Background**

Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death characterized by the iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides, playing a critical role in various pathological conditions including neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Simultaneously, NETosis is a unique process where neutrophils release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) to capture and kill pathogens, but its dysregulation is often linked to inflammatory diseases and tissue injury. Given that both ferroptosis and NETosis contribute to excessive inflammation and cell death in various disease models, the development of agents capable of modulating these pathways is of significant research interest. In this context, we will introduce a dual inhibitor of ferroptosis and NETosis – IM-93.

**Definition**

IM-93 is a water-soluble indolylmaleimide derivative that inhibits both ferroptosis and NETosis with an IC50 value of 0.45 µM for cell death inhibition.

**In Vitro Studies**

Regarding the IM-93 description, this compound is characterized by its specific chemical structure with a molecular weight of 368.47 and the IM-93 formula C21H28N4O2. In terms of IM-93 biological activity, the compound has been developed to overcome the solubility issues often associated with indolylmaleimide derivatives. In vitro studies have demonstrated that IM-93 effectively suppresses the processes of ferroptosis and NETosis, providing a potent means to inhibit cell death. The compound’s ability to act as a dual inhibitor makes it a valuable tool for studying the intersection of innate immune responses and regulated cell death pathways. In conclusion, IM-93 is a potent water-soluble indolylmaleimide derivative that serves as a dual inhibitor of ferroptosis and NETosis.
